Things you should know

Users are required to create a free download account in order to apply for access to the free academic datasets.

Account Creation

When a user signs up for a download account, we require that the user enters the following information:

  • Email

  • Full name

  • Company / Institution

  • Country

  • Funding / Research Goals

  • Planned Usage

In addition, we capture the following details, tied to this account, directly in our database:

  • Current / Last sign in IP address

  • Current / Last sign in timestamp

  • Sign in count

  • HubSpot contact ID

  • We also store a functional session cookie that is required to keep the user logged in.

Download Access

  • Once an account has been accepted, we track downloads of the data:

    • Download timestamp

    • Download release identifier (including type of download and version information)

    • Download request IP address

Academic Usage Surveys

Each year, an academic user is asked to submit a survey in order to maintain access to the DrugBank academic downloads. Amongst general information about their experience with the data, we ask for the following personal information:

  • Highest degree / level of education

  • Industry

  • Job title

  • Team size and makeup

  • Current usage of DrugBank data

  • Research challenges

  • Supporting materials for research using DrugBank (publications, presentations, etc.)

  • General comments
