Why am I seeing a different number of results in Clinical Trial tables on data cards and the Table Builder?

The number of results in a Clinical Trial table might differ if you view the table in Table Builder or on a data card. Both tables are accurate and correctly pulling from the same gold standard DrugBank data you have always relied on. The variance is due to an intentional design decision to adjust the scope for the Table Builder view to improve relevance:

  • Clinical Trial Tables currently on Target data cards includes a broader scope of data, showing both drug and other medical interventions. This can include a wide range of treatments such as surgical trials, medical devices, and psychotherapy, in addition to drug interventions.

  • Clinical Trial Tables in Table Builder includes only drug-intervention data.

This deliberate choice was made to reduce what could be perceived as unwanted complexity or low-relevance results within Table Builder, providing a more focused, tailored experience for drug-based research.

Recent Updates

  • Clinical Trial tables on Drug cards have been updated to align with Table Builder styling and data.

  • Clinical Trial tables on Condition cards have been updated to align with Table Builder and focus exclusively on drug-intervention data.

  • You can easily spot the updated tables by their beta tag and the clear link that opens the full table in Table Builder for deeper analysis.

Upcoming Changes

We are currently working to align both views of Clinical Trial tables to deliver a consistent and reliable experience. This means re-scoping the data that is presented on data cards to align with Table Builder. As this rolls out, we will be moving to have all Clinical Trial tables represent only drug-intervention data.

With the help of users like yourself, we are actively conducting interviews to better understand which scope of data is most valuable and useful to your work. We will use this feedback and additional research to inform the experience we deliver, prioritizing flexibility and transparency.

Please reach out with your feedback if the scoping of this data or these changes will impact your work.
